visual notes. AJ has longish wavy hair that is constantly being wiped back from his eyes. He has (often covered) sigil scars on both of his wrists and one on the back of his neck. The sigils have stayed pristine as he grew up instead of distorting as any scar might when you've had it all your life.

AJ was the black sheep of the Desrosiers family. He doesn’t particularly like following rules, but also engaging the world with the laid-back nature of someone far more grounded. AJ would say he is six feet under type of grounded but his family doesn’t appreciate the dark humor.
Friendly and willing to engage in others, AJ never quite gives back as much as he receives and when it might appear that he does, there is little truth to it. He couldn’t say whether that was because of growing up in an environment that relied on secrets or because of the darkness that constantly circled him. AJ’s clairaudience and ‘the voices’ can turn his mood 180 so he finds it important to put on an easygoing mask rather than let people in.
With all the deep magic ties, old money, and the darkness that pulled at his soul, all AJ wants is to find things to smile and laugh with. He loves sarcasm, dark humor and darker leaning people that can just engulf the soul.

Hemomancy/Blood Magic.
Magic based on the employment of blood, which is an important component in many rituals, spells and other aspects. Due to diversity of blood, AJ can use different blood types to perform different forms of spells and the diversity of blood plays a role in how it can be manipulated. He does however instinctively favors blood sigil spells.
Blood Sense.
Underneath the day to day, he is continuously sensing the presence of blood around him that is outside the body no matter how small a drop. If there’s a drop on the sidewalk, someone is bleeding in some way, etc , his attention is pulled to it and when he touches blood he can tell who or what was there based on it.
Clairaudience.
Not the most flashy or sanity inducing gift, AJ‘s birth ritual had blessed him with the ability to hear in a way that wasn't connected to his physical senses. He can psychically perceive voices and other sounds from past events, future events, people's minds (these are less actual words like telepathy but the impression of the thoughts which can make them non distinguishable from his own.) or locations currently beyond hearing range. And most infuriating, he can hear disembodied spirits and other extradimensional entities. The shadows whisper to him often.
When 'hearing' in a distant location or in a memory of a location, he is mentally pulled away, making his eyes roll back and leaving him unable to see anything. These memories or situations project the emotion of the scene on a more intense level than if one heard it first hand and can be extremely unpleasant as he rarely picks up positive things.
There are also times when he can psychically receive auditory sensations (earache, sudden heightened hearing volume or range, sudden deafness, ringing in the ears, etc), with the presence of psychic energy.
Beacon.
Because of the sigils carved into his skin and the twisted magic infused into them during the ritual, AJ's very presence attracts spirits, with malicious spirits more than happy to make themselves known.

It took visits to the family in Eerie for the purpose of two of three sigils to become known.
The one at the back of his neck is meant to allow for control. An entity tapping into this sigil can compulse AJ into things. Lesser entities have a limited period of time of control as it takes a lot of energy to even initiate the sigil.
The sigil on his left wrist has been found to be a sigil that can open or show some hidden place- though the family has not figured out where or what, and secretly hoping it’s a personal passage between worlds.

- Along with using blood is magical workings, AJ has the ability to manipulate, create (regenerate blood quickly from existing blood) and shape blood, allowing him to use blood as a weapon or healing element (regenerating blood and causing platelets to form a scab over the wound) depending on what the situation calls for.
He cannot heal an internal injury but can stop internal bleeding until medics get there. Once such a wound is out of his vicinity they will go back to bleeding internally.. - Much of the spell work he can perform using blood involves personalized curses, blood-oath bindings, or freeing someone/thing using blood.
- Sidelong these spells, he can summon someone using blood - offering his own to the powers that be to bring them to him. It doesn’t overpower them in any manner merely makes it the path of least resistance or pops the thought to be somewhere in their mind.

There had been a plan to make sure the Locke family could take over. To make sure their dwindling descendants would be more powerful than any of those before in the small town. Everything had been planned from the moment Médée became aware of the pregnancy. Sacrifices would be made to make sure this child would be the essence of power and force of darkness to be reckoned with. He was to be promised to a god of darkness.
In public, the family had been sweet, if not secretive about their rituals, never allowing other families to watch or participate in them. Rumours started of people going missing, animals found slaughtered, and the Locke's had kept the pregnancy a secret as long as they possibly could. In case, any witches with foresight might catch on to the family plans.
On a cold night, under a lunar eclipse, AJ came into the world as quietly as he had snuck up on it. Scarred with symbols for the ritual, he barely had a chance at life before being thrown into magic.
A family of dark magic ritualists, the Lockes held their child up high above a polished onyx bench, complex ritual circles had been drawn out in the forest floor around them in black and red sand and at least one family member had already had their life taken- their blood spilling out soaking the ground beneath the child.
Mid-ritual several witch families of the community descended on the ritual, a large fight breaking out killing the majority of the dark ritualists. Of all the witches there to take out the blood witches, Rhyanon took pity on the baby. Taking him from the fight, AJ was kept close and in the Desrosiers estate. The lie had been started and spread amongst the family for years, AJ was the bastard son of Rhyanon's brother and one of the Locke women. A family shame but still family enough to keep around. Seeing his ‘father’ off and on for years, Rhyanon’s brother lived primarily in Eerie, but left AJ to be raised by Rhyanon. So, AJ grew up in the sterile luxury of old money and older magic.
Much of his young life was a blur of dark forests lit by full moons and the soft whispers of his dead mother's voice. As he grew older, incidents began happening. The voices telling him how to use blood when he wanted something, called for more than just his own blood. Bad things happened around him and he would often be found either sleepwalking into the forests at night or talking to people who weren't there. The Desrosiers's did what they could and he was kept under the careful eye of Rhyanon Desrosiers. Subtle wards were put in place to stop whatever the ghosts plans were from going forward. Still, AJ found more comfort at the house of friends than in the stuffy Desrosiers estate.
The whispers became more intense in Blackwell when his surname was revealed as Locke - but blood ties were very important to the Desrosierss and both family names were always inherited.
The Desrosiers finally decided that his college courses were better taken in Eerie. He was sent partially for that reason and partially as the only male heir that might inherit the property there as long as he followed the rules and made appearances. It was tradition that the first daughters inherited the Blackwell estate and the first sons inherit the Eerie estate.
